Hello Everyone, I am Malkia Darensburg-Thomas, CEO and Founder of “One Black Girl & a Pen Productions.” Born and raised in Henderson, N.C., I left my small-town upbringing and headed to Atlanta where I attended Spelman College. Upon leaving college, I went on to build a small business, Imani Inc. I co-owned and operated this business for 23 years. During the Obama years when the Recession hit, the doors of Imani Inc. closed in 2011. In 2008, I started writing plays for my church, the Ray of Hope Christian Church. In 2014, I started writing for the school where I was teaching, the School Kids Club. For twelve years, I dreamed of writing books, writing, directing, and producing for television, movies, and plays. I decided at the end of 2022, after co-writing and co-directing a musical production, that I would step out on faith and launch my production company. It took me 12 years, but my dream finally has come to reality!
